Wednesday 5th October at 1pmTickets - £5.50, concessions - £4.50 Having destroyed much of his early works, the Piano Quartet remains one of the few remaining scores of the young, bespectacled Mahler. Written with tremendous confidence and radiating excitement, romantic passion and melancholy, the work shows more academic skill than originality, a surprising trait for a student work. The “Trout” Quintet in A Major was composed in 1819 when Schubert was 22 but remained unpublished until 1829, a year after his death.  Rather than the traditional instrumentation of a piano and string quartet, Schubert’s work is written for piano, violin, viola, cello and, unconventionally, the double bass. The overall mood of the Quintet is light and joyful, reflecting the calm serenity of the fresh mountain air, but the unorthodox inclusion of the double bass gives the work nuance and depth. Violin: Benjamin BakerViola: Timothy RidoutCello: Steffan MorrisDouble Bass: Toby HughesPiano: Robert ThompsonMahlerPiano Quartet in A minorSchubertQuintet in A Major, D.667 “Trout”

Thursday 6 October, 7.30pm'The Revlon Girl' is an original play based on the events surrounding the Aberfan Disaster of 1966. Written by Neil Anthony Docking (‘Casualty’, ‘Emmerdale’), directed by Maxine Evans (‘Stella’, ‘Call The Midwife’) and set 8 months after the tragedy, the play draws on the real life story of a small group of bereaved mothers who met every Tuesday above a local hotel to talk, cry and even laugh (without feeling guilty). At one of their meetings, the women looked at each other and realised how much they had let themselves go. Afraid that people would think them frivolous, they secretly arranged for a representative from Revlon to come and give a talk on beauty tips. In this piece, Aakash and Australian choreographer Lewis Major delve into the idea of warped and exaggerated realities. In collaboration with Lewis and Ars Electronica Futurelab (Linz, Austria), the company explores how the misconceptions of dyslexia can be revealed through visual design, light, sound and movement. Award winning Aakash Odedra Company pushes the boundaries of narrative style dance using a movement vocabulary which blends contemporary dance, Kathak and Bharat Natyam.
