A selection of Ivor Novello's best-loved songs and his doting mother to sing them – a simple enough idea for a show … except nothing can ever be simple when it’s Madame Clara Novello Davies who takes centre stage. Indomitable, impetuous, with an ego the size of the Ritz, her genius for choral music had once won her international acclaim.
But it’s 1938 and those halcyon days are long past and never to return – not that Ivor could ever persuade her of that. With their relationship at (yet another) crisis point, this drama sees Clara struggle to come to terms with a world that has lost interest in her kind of music and fallen head-over-heels for her son. She is in her seventies, but still harbouring hare-brained schemes to get back into the limelight. And poor Ivor, always the loving son, is doing his best to keep her happy – and to keep her in check.
As she sings his songs and dutifully sings his praises, she finds herself re-living the traumas of a remarkable life that took her from a modest suburb in Cardiff to the epicentre of London’s Theatreland.

Hailed as Britain's first black feature film, Pressure is a hard-hitting, honest document of the plight of disenchanted British-born black youths. Set in 1970s London, it tells the story of Tony, a bright school-leaver, son of West Indian immigrants, who finds himself torn between his parents' church-going conformity and his brother's Black Power militancy. As his initially high hopes are repeatedly dashed – he cannot find work anywhere, potential employers treat him with suspicion because of his colour – his sense of alienation grows. In a bid to find a sense of belonging, he joins his black friends who, estranged from their submissive parents, seek a sense of purpose in the streets and in chases with the police. An angry but sincere and balanced film, Pressure deals with the identity struggles that children of immigrants have to face and Horace Ové makes the most of his combination of professional actors and local non-actors from the streets of London.
Made by Trinidadian director Sir Horace Ove, Pressure is widely acknowledged to have kick-started black British cinema. This is truly a piece of cinematic history.
Following the film there will be a panel discussion with Yvonne Connikie, Charlie Phillips Adeola Dewis

Bringing Sci-Fi to the stage, Jamiel Laurence’s new work “Read-Only Memory” will explore how the technology of the far future may be used to manipulate human memory, forcing us to relive deeply personal experiences from a new perspective. Drawing inspiration from the “DUNE” series of novels by sci-fi author Frank Herbert, the work will feature exciting new designs by Rhiannon Matthews and be accompanied by a newly commissioned composition from Scotland-based composer Sonia Killmann.
The programme will also premiere a newly commissioned work from award winning U.K. choreographer Anna Watkins. Anna's first work for the company “24HR” will explore a ‘therapy room’ told through her powerful and athletic choreographic language. Drawing on shared experiences of depression, the humanity of the work will be found through her courageous self-exploration laid bare before the audience; With an original soundtrack created by Bawren Tavaziva & Zosia Jagodzinska.
Marcus Willis’ “High Jinks” transports the audience to an evening of boisterous antics amongst a familiar group of folks. Bringing the work to the U.K. for the first time, High Jinks is a reimagined and extended choreographic work, first created in 2016. With all new choreography and utilizing the structural road map from its original inception, the new version of High Jinks will feature a brand-new costume palette designed by Rhiannon Matthews and feature the music of Schubert, J.S. After a year away from the front line, ITV’s Tour de France commentator Ned Boulting returns with a fresh assault on our cycling senses.
The cunningly entitled “Retour de Ned” is an indispensable theatrical road map for anyone aspiring to wear the yellow jersey on the Champs Elysées: a really very rough guide to the tactics (pedal faster) and challenges (not pedalling fast enough) which will need to be deployed to win the biggest bike race in the world. Along the way, there will be time to call to mind the greatest racers of the age, and to do hopelessly bad impressions of them. There will be scope to celebrate all that is French about France, and all that is Tourish about the Tour: Stuff like ignoring 12th century cathedrals, peeing at the side of the road, pushing spectators over, punching demonstrators and generally behaving like a shaven-legged hooligan for a month while riding over entire mountain ranges.
So come along for another ride through the peaks and troughs of the silliest and the grandest month of the year, as Ned hands out his copious, thoroughly unreliable, advice on How To Win The Tour de France. Or if not that, then at least How To Watch It On The Telly.

Still only 23 Lucienne Ranaudin Vary already has an incredible career as a classical and jazz trumpeter. The programme combines classical repertoire with jazz influenced music from the streets of France and New York. In the first half you will hear the small ensemble version of Wagner's Siegfried Idyll and the sensational Hummel’s Trumpet Concerto. The orchestra opens the second half with Ravel's Le Tombeau de Couperin before we switch moods with pieces taken from her album with the BBC Concert Orchestra, Mademoiselle in New York, arranged by Bill Elliot.

Mike Bubbins, star of hit podcast The Socially Distant Sports Bar, and of BBC television comedies Mammoth, Tourist Trap and The Unexplainers, unleashes THROWBACK, his first ever solo UK stand-up tour. And things may never be the same again.
THROWBACK is a powerful, thought-provoking, visceral hour of stand-up comedy, that pushes boundaries, defies neat descriptions and challenges the audience...
AS IF IT IS!
It’s actually an hour and a half of really funny stories, pretty impressive characterisations, possibly a song (he said he’ll see how that goes), a bit of nostalgia about the good old days, a bit of optimism about the good new days, and Mike generally having a laugh about life and not taking himself, or anything else, too seriously. Having said that, he may, at some point in the show, get very annoyed at berks, whether in the past, the present, or the future. Very annoyed.
So basically THROWBACK is a comedy show about Bubbins sharing, and bringing to life, the stuff that he finds funny. As comedy concepts go, it’s a pretty straightforward one, really.
‘They asked me to do a UK comedy tour, called THROWBACK...and so I did.’ Mike Bubbins

You’ve never seen me like this before. You’ve never been this close. I’m inviting you to spend an intimate evening with me – think of it as coming back to my place for a night of stories and songs. Pellow Talk is a chance to learn all about me, not just as a singer and songwriter with Wet Wet Wet, but as a boy and a man. It’s a chance to understand the DNA of the hits that we’ve listened to and loved over the years. The evening will be wrapped in music, from songs you know to ones you’ll get to know. There’ll be laughter as we travel from the banks of the River Clyde to the top of the charts, then onto Broadway and beyond. There’ll be no mask and no character. This is me, Marti, stepping out of the shadows, speaking directly to you. The invitation is there. I hope you come and spend some time with me. Enough living has been done for a life to unfold. Enough years have passed for a story to be told.
Marti Pellow

He’s been a major star for four decades. Paul Young broke into the big time 40 years ago when No Parlez went to number one and spawned iconic hits like Wherever I Lay My Hat (That’s My Home). More success followed with the number one album The Secret Of Association and the worldwide hit Everytime You Go Away, not forgetting an appearance at Live Aid and more. Paul sustained that success – while having fun in his tex-mex band, Los Pacaminos. Now, on the 40th anniversary of No Parlez, he’s releasing a remarkable new record and publishing his extraordinary memoir; both called Behind The Lens. He’s touring the UK, too, where he’ll meet fans, sing hits and tell
stories about his incredible career. It’s time to revel in the classic hits and learn the stories behind them as Paul steps out from Behind The Lens.
