From the director of Heavenly Nomadic (WOW 2019) comes another vivid, engaging portrait of life in the mountains of Kyrgyzstan that is just as visually epic and emotionally rich as his debut. Twelve-year-old Jekshen, may be the fastest runner in school, but his parents are divorced, and life with his alcoholic father is difficult. His only chance to improve his lot comes from the races families organise when their children take their first steps. The prize can be a cockerel, a lamb or even a horse. With its big heart and expressive central performance, Running to the Sky paints a delicate, layered portrait of everyday life for one young boy as he bears more weight than he should for his age.
“A coming of age drama told with such charm and sensitivity that it registers highon the likeability scale.” Screen International
