When fleeing Paris after the German invasion, Georg (Franz Rogowski) escapes to Marseille assuming the identity of a dead author whose papers he possesses. These are his only hope of escaping the encroaching tide of tyranny, but complications ensue when he falls for the mysterious Marie (Paula Beer)... Christian Petzold's film skillfully blends together two time periods (1940s Europe and present day France) and allows them to coexist on screen - a move which poignantly demonstrates the urgency of our current political and social climate. Transit was nominated for the Golden Bear at the Berlin Film Festival and cements Petzold (Barbara, Phoenix) as one of Europe's most exciting directors.
